Catching the Partial Solar Eclipse

On Monday, August 21, at 1:00 in the afternoon, the students of Wisconsin Academy joined millions of others across the nation to view the solar eclipse. The most recent complete solar eclipse visible from the United States was in 1979, and although the sun was only 85% covered in this part of Wisconsin, it was a rare enough event to get all classes meeting at that hour canceled.

All eyes were glued on the sky. The science department provided viewing glasses, and through brief gaps in the clouds we were able to see the sun change from a shining disk to a crescent, and back to a disk. If you missed this eclipse, you’ve got a while to wait. The next total solar eclipse in the United States will be in 2024!

It All Begins With a Handshake …

For over sixty years, the Wisconsin Academy school term has begun with a grand handshake line winding across the campus. As the sun sinks low in the sky, students file out from Summerton Hall and shake hands with each teacher and classmate. New friendships begin. Old friends are reunited. The smiles, hugs, and laughter advertise the fact that the WA family is together at last.

As faculty and staff, we are honored and humbled that you have entrusted your students to Wisconsin Academy this year. Please know that we take this responsibility seriously and prayerfully. We know that your greatest joy is to see your children walk in the truth. This too, is our heart’s desire and our greatest goal for each one.

At the beginning of this school year, we reach out our hands to shake yours and say “Hello. We’re Wisconsin Academy. We’re here for you and your student. We’re praying for you and we ask that you pray for us. Let’s work together so that what begins with a handshake will grow into an everlasting friendship with Jesus.”
